Tobacco Processing
Project overview
A leading tobacco processor in East Java aimed to transition from natural gas to a more sustainable biomass-based energy solution using locally available fuels.
Thermax installed a biomass-fired boiler to meet the plant’s steam requirements efficiently. The solution enabled reliable steam generation while significantly reducing the plant’s carbon footprint and supporting its sustainability goals.
Challenges
- A leading tobacco processor in East Java sought a greener alternative to replace its natural gas-fired boiler. The goal was to transition to a biomass-based solution using locally available waste fuels.
Solution
- Thermax installed a UPRG boiler capable of firing 100% wood pellets, delivering 9 TPH of steam at 15 kg/cm² pressure to meet the plant’s 7.2 TPH steam demand across process and utility operations.
Result
- The switch to biomass significantly reduced the plant’s carbon footprint, supporting its sustainability goals while ensuring consistent and efficient steam supply.
