Project overview
An Indonesian manufacturer of nucleotides, lysine, and MSG aimed to improve boiler efficiency and reduce emissions from its coal-based operations.
Thermax upgraded the facility with a more efficient fluidised bed combustion boiler, enhancing performance and lowering coal consumption. The successful implementation led to repeat orders and further emission control upgrades, supporting improved efficiency and regulatory compliance.
Challenges
- In 2016, an Indonesian manufacturer of nucleotides, lysine, and monosodium glutamate (MSG) relied on coal-based chain grate boilers, facing challenges with low efficiency and high emissions.
Solution
- Thermax replaced one of their inefficient boilers with a Bi-Drum fluidised bed combustion boiler, offering better combustion, reduced coal usage, and improved operational reliability.
Result
- The new boilers reduced coal consumption by approximately 15–20%. Pleased with the performance, the customer placed a repeat order for 3 x 35 TPH Bi-drum boilers. Thermax also installed four electrostatic precipitators (ESPs) on their existing boilers to reduce emissions by less than 100 mg/Nm³, ensuring regulatory compliance.
