Project overview
A leading sugar manufacturer in Thailand was experiencing a gradual decline in electrostatic precipitator (ESP) performance after more than a decade of operation.
With tightening emission norms and the need to maintain efficiency in a biofuel-fired boiler environment, the customer sought a solution to improve ESP performance without replacing existing equipment.
Challenges
- Declining ESP performance due to ageing electronic controllers and outdated spark regulation.
- Risk of emissions exceeding permissible limits over time.
- Difficulty in maintaining emissions below 30 mg/Nm³ in biomass-fired boilers with high moisture and fibrous fuel content.
- Requirement to improve performance without complete ESP replacement.
Solution
- Installed Thermax Opticor® advanced voltage controllers across both ESP units.
- Enabled real-time digital spark and voltage control with improved pulse energy regulation.
- Enhanced mA/kV delivery to ESP fields, improving dust charging and collection.
- Provided high adaptability to varying fuel compositions and load conditions.
