Advanced Oxidation Processes (AOPs) are a set of chemical treatment procedures

It used to remove organic pollutants in water and wastewater by oxidation through reactions with highly reactive transient species, primarily the hydroxyl radical (•OH). These radicals are extremely powerful, non-selective oxidants capable of breaking down a wide range of organic compounds, often completely mineralising them into carbon dioxide, water, and inorganic ions.

Salient features

  • Effective in degrading a wide range of organic pollutants
  • Potential for complete mineralisation of pollutants
  • Can treat pollutants that are resistant to conventional methods
  • Can reduce toxicity and improve biodegradability
