Blow-Through System

Optimises condensate removal and enhances drying efficiency with a high-velocity steam flow

Submit your enquiry

In rotating steam-heated cylinders, centrifugal force can create a rim of condensate that insulates the heat transfer surface, leading to inefficient drying, uneven temperature profiles, and increased energy consumption.

Traditional steam traps might not be sufficient to remove this rim. A Blow-Through System overcomes this by allowing a small, controlled amount of live steam (the "blow-through" steam) to continuously pass through the dryer along with the condensate. This high-velocity flow dynamically sweeps the condensate and non-condensable gases out of the dryer, ensuring that the entire internal surface remains effectively heated. This system typically involves specialised rotary joints, syphons, and a blow-through steam trap or valve on the discharge side.

 Key Industries / Applications:
Industries: Paper, textile, food (e.g., drying cereals, starch), chemical, and any industry utilising large, rotating steam-heated cylinders for drying
Applications: Dryer sections of paper machines, textile drying cans, rotary drum dryers, and other steam-heated rotating equipment where condensate rimming and air binding are problematic
